of miles of rugged, rocky trails. Program features combine the best of the Old
West—horseback riding, burro packing, gold panning, chuckwagon dinners,

- This guide is designed to assist council contingents
and units plan a successful Philmont adventure. Experienced advisors
and new advisors will find the answers to their many questions regarding
Philmont.
- Expeditions and Trek Itineraries
- Each summer, crews hike Philmont's mountains, spending
nights at various camps and participating in a wide array of programs
presented by Philmont's backcountry staff. More than 820,000 Scouts,
Venturers, and their leaders have participated in the rugged challenge
of Philmont's signature program.
- Individual Programs
- In addition to regular expeditions for crews of seven to
12 members, Philmont offers several programs that are available to individuals
and smaller groups.
- Second Season Programs
- While Philmont is best known for its popular summer programs,
the Scout ranch is open year-round, providing high-adventure expeditions
through the Autumn Adventures and Kanik programs.
- Double H High Adventure Base
- Started in the summer of 2004, the Double H High Adventure
Base is Philmont Scout Ranch?s newest program. Located on the Torstenson
Family Wildlife Center in Datil, New Mexico, the Double H is over 100,000
acres of rugged wilderness.
