A New Vision
In May 2006, the Boy Scouts of America announced the 2006-2010 National
Strategic Plan, titled "2010: When Tradition Meets Tomorrow."
Designed to propel the organization into its next century of service, the plan
builds on the organization's tradition of preparing youth to become
extraordinary adults.
Each year, a different phase of the Strategic Plan is highlighted. In 2006,
the special emphasis was on research and included studies on how the
organization can better meet the needs of the next generation of volunteers and
parents and better serve young people in Hispanic/Latino, Asian, and African
American communities.
However, this annual emphasis does not preclude the many tactics of the
Strategic Plan from being initiated at the most appropriate and effective time
over the plan's five-year period. These tactics are divided among the Strategic
Plan's five pillars.
Ensure that every eligible youth has an opportunity to be involved in a
quality Scouting experience and receive Scouting's promise of a fun,
values-driven program.
Ensure every local council is fiscally sound. Focus efforts on increasing
local councils' unrestricted endowment funds and net assets.
Providing a quality program requires quality leaders. Increase the number of
leaders at all levels of Scouting—resulting in a higher number of Quality
Councils, Districts, and Units—by adding 1 million new volunteers.
Identify, initiate, and strengthen relationships with local, regional, and
national chartered organizations and strategic alliances that share our vision
to prepare youth to become responsible, participating citizens and leaders
guided by the Scout Oath and Law.
Identify, develop, and retain the right professionals in the right positions
at all levels, with a focus on diversity.�� |
