International Conference at Philmont Training Center
Printer-Friendly Version
Every two years, the International Division conducts a weeklong educational and
training conference at the Philmont Training Center in New Mexico. The conference
provides information and skills that will help participants develop and expand the
international Scouting program in their local council and provides an opportunity
for them to interact and learn from one another.
Every conference in the past has included international guests, including regional
directors and other representatives from the World Organization of the Scout Movement,
and presidents and chief executive officers of national associations. Course instructors
for the conference are local council volunteers who have many years of experience in
international Scouting. Topics of courses and VIP presentations from BSA representatives
and international guests have included the following:
- Overview of the World Organization of the Scout Movement
- International Division
- Council international representative
- International Committee
- Planning an international council event
- Exchange programs and tours
- World Friendship Fund
- International Camp Staff program
- European Camp Staff program
Any adult registered Scouter who desires to learn more about international Scouting and
the operations of the International Division can attend this weeklong course. As with all
Philmont training experiences, participation in the conference is extended by invitation.
To receive an invitation, the local council (not the International Division) must submit
the participant's name to the training center. Invitations are extended every two years
during the summer.
